New Headquarters for Largest Scientific Funding Institution in the US

On behalf of an affiliate of USAA Real Estate, Lowe developed the 700,000 square foot National Science Foundation (NSF) Headquarters in the Carlyle/Eisenhower area of Alexandria, Virginia.  Lowe assumed management of the buildings upon completion. The architecturally striking and technologically advanced property consists of two interconnected towers of 19 and 14 stories, with 19,000 square feet of street level retail space, a fitness and wellness center, cafeteria and three levels of below-grade parking. The property, designed to exceed LEED Silver certification guidelines, is a model for modern office properties with sustainable design and energy conservation features along with flexible interiors that enhance productivity and lower cost of occupancy for the NSF.  It also incorporates several technologies that were developed through research grants awarded by the agency.  The NSF Headquarters building is located directly across from the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station, 5 miles from Reagan National Airport and within 3 blocks of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office campus and the U.S. Federal District Courthouse. The NSF is the largest scientific research funding and financial support institution in the United States.
