Live, Work, Create, Innovate, Educate

Lowe Enterprises and I.D.E.A. Partners were selected by the San Diego Community College District to create a mixed-use development on a full city block in the vibrant Upper East Village of downtown San Diego. Lowe later formed a joint venture with LaSalle Investment Management to develop the property.

The urban mixed-use project includes creative office space, apartments, and live/work spaces designed to appeal to young urban professionals, with street level shops and restaurants that will attract residents, employees, and the local community. The interior spaces – consisting of an atrium and an open courtyard – will be active community gathering areas programmed with a variety of events and activities. Staying true to the architecture and atmosphere of the East Village community is a priority at IDEA1. The classical concrete building was designed to complement the surrounding properties, with a specially crafted illuminated building sign was created to look as though it has been in place for generations.

IDEA1 is designed to be the catalyst for the 95+acre I.D.E.A. District, Innovation+Design+Education+Arts, an innovative approach to creating a vibrant jobs cluster at the intersection of design and technology.

The highly successful, creative community was sold in 2022.
