Lowe was selected by the University of California to develop and manage this $60.8 million hotel and conference center on 9.5 acres in La Jolla, California. Lowe and the University partnered to design a facility that would fill the University’s lodging and conference needs and also appeal to business and leisure travelers. The 210-room Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa debuted in the summer of 2004, making the Conde’ Nast Hot List of best new hotels of the year. Estancia La Jolla features Spanish hacienda-style architecture with lush gardens, courtyards and outdoor seating areas across the property. Among the hotel’s premier amenities are three restaurants and lounges including the popular Mustangs & Burros, the 9,000-square-foot Spa at Estancia, and San Diego’s only IACC-certified conference facility. Lowe adapted several historic adobe structures to be reused as the hotel’s lobby and restaurants. Lowe’s hospitality management subsidiary continued to manage the hotel for approximately a year after it was sold to an investor/operator in 2011.
