A New Center for Community Activity

Lowe was selected by the City of Compton to develop a new gathering place in the city; the two-level, 30,000-square-foot Compton Community Center. Located in the heart of downtown Compton, it is the latest addition in the ongoing expansion of the city’s downtown core. The Community Center offers programming and activities for residents of all ages. It is designed with a large multi-purpose room for assemblies, events and presentations, six classroom/meeting rooms for educational programming and social functions and a fitness center for exercise, and health and well-being programs. On the second level a teen lounge, game room and outdoor deck provide areas for social interaction and recreation. The building’s design offers plentiful natural light, landscaped courtyards and patios with areas for relaxing and socializing. The parking structure provides approximately 330 parking spaces for shared use for the SAC and Metro Park-and-Ride. The project was developed using $24 million of tax allocation bond proceeds available from the Compton Redevelopment Agency’s 2010 bond program.
